The Akhanda Yoga style is a holistic approach to teaching traditional Hatha Yoga. Akhanda Yoga is an exploration of the body, mind and spirit. Through Asana (physical postures) and Pranayama (breathwork) we explore the inner and outer workings of the body; allowing, guiding, moulding and massaging the body in different ways to release tensions, stored emotions and create a clear pathways for our energy to flow freely. We use Mantra to cultivate a feeling of oneness (or Brahma), connectedness and devotion to something that is bigger than our individual selves.
In this class we move through foundational yoga postures and flow mindfully with a focus on safe alignment and breath while honoring your own individual needs and level of experience. Each week we explore bringing yoga into your daily life to increase strength, balance, flexibility and breath capacity.
Gentle yoga is appropriate for all levels and ages of practitioners. Gentle yoga moves at a steady pace, slowly cycling though a series of floor based, seated, and standing asanas seeking to provide therapeutic modifications to common yoga poses. This form of yoga helps increase mobility and flexibility in a slower well rounded approach. This class incorporates simple flowing sequences to warm up the body, as well as slower paced movements focusing on alignment, strength, balance, and flexibility.
Flow yoga emphasizes the sequential movement between postures, coordinated with and guided by deliberate breath. The Vinyasa practice becomes a moving meditation that creates strength, freedom and fluidity in the body and mind. As we ride the waves of breath in our Yoga practice, we learn to ride the waves of change in our lives with more ease. All levels are welcome to join this practice in finding one's state of flow!
Yin Yoga is a slower-paced, more meditative version of the popular physical and spiritual discipline of yoga. In Yin yoga, the poses are held for a longer period of time (typically three to five minutes) to target the connective tissues (such as the ligaments and fascia) rather than focusing on the muscles. As a result, the asanas are more passive holds, with little muscular engagement. While initially this style of yoga can seem quite boring, passive, or soft, yin practice can be quite challenging due to the long duration of the poses.
Ages 5-8. We will work on improving strength, balance attention and coordination through fun yoga games, challenging yoga sequences as well as partner and group poses. Little yogi's will learn healthy stress and anxiety coping mechanisms and work on building self-esteem, learn mindfulness activities, useful breathing exercises and relaxation/visualization techniques in a non-competitive environment. They will also learn about self-love and the importance of showing kindness to others.
Barre uses the ballet barre and incorporates movements derived from ballet. These classical dance movements and positions are also combined with Yoga and Pilates. Equipment is sometimes used in addition to the barre, such as resistance bands, yoga straps, exercise balls and hand weights. Each class is designed to be a full-body, muscle endurance workout. The barre is used as a prop to balance while doing exercises that focus on isometric strength training (holding your body still while you contract a specific set of muscles) combined with high reps of small
range-of-motion movements.
